I'm currently writing about shoes.
This is funny because I've never been a
Shoe Fetish Girl. I'm not the girl who has a million pairs of shoes and goes shoe shopping when I'm feeling down. My name might be
Rebecca, but I ain't no
Shopaholic!
Shoes have always served a practical function in my life. Most of the time, anyway. I do adore high heels, but I feel like such an idiot purchasing them. I can't bring myself to actually spend that much money on a pair of decorative shoes that I'm only going to wear occasionally. That's why I get my high heels at places like Marshals and Wal*Mart. My Sexy Shoes that I wore for
years, I paid ten bucks for them at Wal*Mart and they held up pretty good. My current high heel loves are a sweet pair of Nine Wests with the pointy toes and they are just magnificent. I got them at Marshals for somewhere around twenty bucks. But I'm going to have them forever. My current lifestyle rarely requires the use of high heels. I've got one wedding coming up and that's probably the only time I'm going to wear those suckers. I'm generally a sneakers and sandals girl, but then again I'm also a jeans and tee shirt girl. Maybe if I didn't live in the woods at least six months out of the year and do recreational activities like hiking mountains, maybe if I were back in school or lived in a city I would have more use for high heels. But as it is, I don't.
Sneakers, hiking shoes, sandals, yes, lots of use for those things. But fancy shoes? So little. Not that I don't adore fancy shoes. I love my high heels. I love wearing
jeans, high heels and pearls. That was one of my favorite fashion statements a few years ago. I still love it, but have so few occassions to actually pull that one out these days.
But, yah, I'm writing about shoes. It's actually a lot of fun! I'm super shocked with myself. It all stemmed from a joke I made to my mom last night about my sandals and my high heels needing to be separated and the Converses just staying out of it, cause they're wicked chill like that. And my dad told me I should write short stories about shoes. All because I asked where I could find an over the door organizer for those suckers that are currently littering my floor.
Let me repeat: I have
never been all that into shoes. My BFF from college, the lovely Courtney Celia however, always notices peoples (guys) shoes. And it always aumused me. But thinking about it more and more, shoes definitely have personality. They make a statement. CC recognizes (judges) people by their shoes. But people own so many different styles of shoes so how can you truly judge what a person is like based on their shoe collection? Although it is an interesting challenge.
What does your shoe collection say about you? Hm?

Guys usually have one standard pair of shoes they wear all the time. They might have a pair of sandals and probably have a pair of dress shoes to go with a suit. That's about it. If a guy has more than that, he's probably gay.
@Rejected_Stone - Or 'Metro'. heh.
True story. Women have significantly more shoes than men, typically!
Great shoe rack! I've never been the shoe girl. That was my bff and roommate 2BoyCrazy. Lucky for me, we had the same shoe size so I'd get to experiment on her dime. But I always had a pair of black pumps, brown pumps and blue. A couple of high heeled dance-able shoes, and several flat sandals. Always 1 pair of running shoes (they'd last for years since I never exercised.) Something happened to me this year. I seem to "need" shoes for every occasion. And I have an indulgent husband. He actually announced to a friend on Saturday, "My wife loves shoes." That was a shocker. But considering the shoe purchases lately...
I got these amazingly comfortable slingback pumps at Nordstrom in Sept. That hooked me on not getting the cheap shoes becuase discovering that heels can be all-day comfortable was a revelation. Then I bought those fuschia patent pumps, but didn't buy them carefully. They hurt after about 2hrs. Okay, after about 10 min, but I can stand the pain for 2hrs. Then I bought these pale brown high heeled sandals with a sort of aligator texture to the straps at teh 9West store. OMG they are so comfortable...I did hours and hours of schmoozing in them at the writers conference. I could hug those shoes. So Saturday I realized what I was going to wear to the wedding in 2 weeks (I should blog about this new amazing dress) adn needed COMFORTABLE heels. Yes, I have plenty of UNcomfortable heels to go with that dress, but I want all-day-comfortable heels. So back to 9West, I found an awesome pair of a silvery high heeled sandals. It's like a dark purplish silver with chrome-looking heels. Comfy too. Then I realized I needed new Tevas asap (I wear them instead of running shoes when I exercise) and a pair of walking shoes for our trip to the Netherlands in 6wks. So 3 pairs of shoes in one day, that was my Saturday. I still shop like a man...go in, try on, pick. Conquer. Done. But my shoe closet is taking on new life and I think I like it!
Considering how long my comment is, and my lack of inspiration for a new blog, I think maybe I'll edit that comment and post it. Will have to get some pics of the shoes though. Might mean posting it tomorrow.
